Firehouse Restaurant - Greek Food

TomSwift | Jun 12, 200306:24 PM     9

On the rec of Creamfinger (see the post in the 6/11/03 "The Sabretts Have Been Found" thread) I drove to Reseda today for a Gyros lunch. I had driven by this place a zillion times but had never gone in. The first good sign was that the place was full of Greek-looking people, some speaking Greek (but what do I know; it's all Greek to me). The second good sign (actually the first) was the mouthwatering smells assaulting me as I entered. Had the traditional Gyros pita sandwich ($5.95). It was the best I've had except for when I was in Greece. The lamb/beef combination was an earthy, subtle flavor with an excellent spice mixture. The chopped tomatoes were surprising flavorful for this time of year. The sliced onions (extra as requested) had been marinated in something that gave them a piquant flavor. There was a side of extra tomatoes and onions. The pita had been grilled and had a bit of char but was not hard at all. The best of all was the Tzatziki, in the pita and an extra side. Loaded with garlic and a very tangy yogurt. Thoroughly satisfying! For future visits there are Souvlaki, Spanakopita, Mousaka, Sheftalies and more. And, oh yes, they have hamburgers too.

Note to Creamfinger: I took a copy of your post and gave it to them. The chef, Tony, read it and was delighted. In 25 words or less I tried to explain Chowhound. Tony said that he was going to frame it and hang it in the place. Who knows, the next time you go in you may see your post. I also gave a copy of your Sabtrett post to Smiley, the Sabrett cart guy in TO. His reaction was similar.
