I searched chowhound Australia/New Zealand and didn't see any mention of this restaurant. So I thought I'd let anyone who will be in the Sydney area know that Firedoor in Surry Hills is a "must try".
Casual, cool atmosphere. Staff was engaged and kind. But most importantly... The food. They grill everything over burning hot coals. All local Australian fare. High quality, freshest ingredients. We shared the prawns, marron, Roman beans and a sirloin. Everything was just so delicious. Prepared simply but with bursting flavored. We topped our dinner off w a smoked milk ice cream and grilled berries dessert.
I am a long time chowhound lurker. Rare poster. This restaurant was worth shouting from the rooftops. If you're in the area, go. You will not regret it.
