We were on our way from Villa Medici to a very under-subscribed decorative arts museum; Museo Boncompagni Ludovisi, when we found Fiore. Clean, simple and contemporary interior sets the stage for clean simple interesting food. In a city with many heavy menus this is a refreshing change. Imagine the local farm to table ingredients but with out the end result being the typical Italian offerings. Instead the menu is heavy on the vegan and vegetarian side with seafood offerings and some terran protein.
We enjoyed a delicious lunch, red prawns with citrus, vegetables and a light lemon sauce that had been lightly steamed and served over couscous, and veal belly with roasted vegetables and potatoes. If this sounds mundane, it was anything but. The flavours sparkled and the presentation was beautiful. Service was solid. The fresh pom juice was pretty puckery, but a bit of sugar tamed it and made it delicious.
