FINS - Creekside -Calabasis

I took my wife to Fin's for a early "Mother's Day Dinner since I was going to be out of town next week, first let me say that I have done the "valentino's thing, and it was "boring", and the food was just okay. Our waiter at valentin's was horrible! The meal took weel over 90 minutes to be served. I wont go back.

But our meal at Fin's Calabasis was another story. The back patio provided a great casual dining experience. Our waiter was both knowledgeable, and courteous. We started with "Fire Cracker" Scallop's in some kind of Japanese Mayo, and mushroom sauce, and it was AMAZING! We also had a "Chopped Baja Salad, with Crab meat, and a tangy cilantro dressing. Also one of the best appietizers we have ever had. After sharing the two appietizers, we shared a bowl of Manhattan Clam Chowder, which was very fresh, and had enough spice to make it a memorable addition.

For main entree's we ordered Macadamian Crusted Halibut, and at the waiters reccomendation we tried "Lamb Curry"? The curry was very good, served in a red curry sauce, with jasmine rice, and a cold vegtable side order spice with a rice vinegar, and cilantro dressing. Just perfectly medium spicy with several lean pieces of lamb, and not a hint of any fat remaining on the tender meat, plus the portion was enormus, more than we could ever hope to eat, even shraring. The Halibut (a signature dish at this restaurant)was also served with rice, and came with a sweet, and tangy Macadamian nut/peanut butter sauce that was to die for! Amazing flavor, and the halibut was very fresh, and cooked to perfection. Once agian , a huge portion, but once you start eating eihter entree, you are hard pressed to drop your fork and walk away! After all we had already consumed, and visions of my next 10k run coming up in Miami hurled through my brain, our waiter "Shaun" announces tonites desserts, which sounded good, but sometimes can be very mediocre, and we decided to go for "Bread Pudding in bourbon sauce, and my wife ordered "Creme Bru Le"
(excuse my spelling) both arrived well prepared, and more than enough for one person. The Creme Bru Le, was 3x's the size she is usually served, very creamy, and the Bread Pudding was only second to the stuff we had in New Orleans previously. All said and done, this was hands down one the the greatest dining experiences I have ever had here in Los Angeles. A great place, very good service, and a meal without any questionable dishes, totally lacking any boredom! A CHOW HOUND'S dream come true! Much better than most any restaurant I have been to in Miami over the last 3-4 months were I have been working. Much, much better! Dining for us had a new "water mark" - Fin's in the crest!
