Finicky's hot dog stand

joan | Oct 2, 200212:22 PM

i've been driving by this hole in the wall at Western and Grand for years. i could no longer resist the lure of a place with a big sign announcing, "Finicky's, we're very fussy about your food". it was a tiny place, no tables,no counter. Vienna natural casing hot dog, steamed bun, onion, pickle, sport peppers, relish and mustard (hold the tomato), with very potatoey skin on , fresh cut fries was a mere $1.90. the take out menu doesnt indicate chili, but there were several interior signs that mentioned it, so i took home a cup. it was $2 and was really terrific. i dont know how it compares to other cheap eats places, since i seldom order it, but it was well seasoned, more ground beef than beans (i'd prefer it the other way), not terribly thick, but full of flavor. i'd definitely order it again. the fries were very good, not terribly greasy. you have to take away or eat in your car (they have a parking lot). and, according to the menu, "do not call at noon, we're too busy!" i'd go back if i was in the neighborhood. joan
