Need help finding a replacement for Au Troquet - French

Kenzi | Dec 3, 2001 12:22 PM

For years I have been going to Au Troquet for special family occasions but know they have gone out of business and I need a replacement. I am sure someone out there can give me some suggestions.

Au Troquet was a small authentic restaurant. There was nothing nouvelle or hip about it, just elegant, simple and good. The decor was simple and homey but everything clean and white linen. The service was very french but not attitude-ridden or obsequious. The price was about average, about $20-30/person (entrees starting at $13). They were located on W. 12th Street on a very quiet out of the way corner so it was always quiet as if transported to another time period. I miss the place and want to find something like that. Is there anything in NYC that hasn't been ruined with hype? Please help!

P.S. I will go out of Manhattan, of course, so if you have an outer-borough suggestion I'll give it a try
