Is this Japanese mountain yam widely available in SF, and is it expensive? I was given one when I went to LA last weekend and have been inspired to experiment with it (initial thoughts include ice cream, salads, and pancakes--thanks, Home Cooking Board!).
I know I can probably get it at Nijiya in Japantown, but was hoping the Richmond and Chinatown would offer cheaper options. I can't believe I've never noticed it before.
