Hi everyone... I'd really appreciate some help on this one. My 30th birthday is coming up, and I want to treat myself to a really delicious bottle of red that I haven't tried before to bring to dinner with my boyfriend. I'm no wine expert, but I really do love wine, and usually when I want to try something new I just go in to my favorite wine shop and ask for suggestions, but I thought it would be great to get some more perspectives so I can be better informed when I go in. Specific wines or even just producers or good vintages for types would be greatly appreciated.
I've come up with a list of qualities (my apologies in advance that they are not all wine terms) that would make up my ideal wine:
Texture: rich, chewy
Tannins: soft, but not non-existent either
Flavors: game, mushrooms, chocolate, some fruit (not spicy)
Generally: good natured and opinionated, but not argumentative :)
As for price, I can't spring for one of those truly rare, exorbitantly expensive bottles, but I'm willing to splurge a bit. Thanks so much in advance...
