Does anyone know where to find (hawaiian) saimin, or anything closely approximating it, in San Francisco?
We have become afficianados of this hawaiian delicacy after many visits to Hamura's Saimin in Lihue, Kauai, but can't seem to find it anywhere here at home. I would appreciate any suggestions. Otherwise, I will have to fly to Lihue for lunch!
By the way, udon and other Japanese noodles in broth are NOT the same thing. And Chinese noodles in broth are likewise not an equivalent. Saimin seems to be a dish particular to the islands, and neither the Japanese nor the Chinese claim any knowledge of, or heritage for, this dish.
