Where Can I Find Appetizers That Are Big Enough to Be a Meal?

katya | Jun 10, 200502:16 PM

What restaurants serve appetizers that are big enough to be a meal? I'm wondering so I can eat more cheaply and maybe even at better restaurants. I'm not interested in a meal of small plates or tapas, I want one app that will be substantial enough for a meal.

Some places I know of so far include:

Q in the Inner Richmond serves an appetizer (at least they did back in 2002) of two fish tacos for about $6.50. They were quite tasty and filling, though not filling enough that I was considering ordering dessert.

Although New Kapadokia serves really good entrees, I often skip them in favor of one of their $5 mezes (such as sigara borek - cigar-shaped filo dough wrapping feta and herbs) and their $5 slightly spicy red lentil soup. Along with the complimentary bread, it's definitely filling. OK, so I cheated and listed two dishes. But you get the idea. Any suggestions?
