I loved the vibe of this place. It's so old-time NY, and the people there were helpful and friendly. I did order their steak tartar, but I wasn't very thrilled with it. It has some kind of celery salt-type seasoning that masks the flavor of the beef. It was interesting, but not my cup o' tea. The sausage platter (bratwurst, knockwurst) was probably the best version that I've had in NYC. And the sauerkraut with little bits of some kind of smoked meat was addictive. The other hot foods and specials that were coming out of the kitchen looked pretty good too. I'll be certain to stick to that part of the menu. Also very good was the smoked trout appetizer with the horseradish cream.
