Finally made it to the Barnacle

BlueMagic | Oct 25, 201103:45 PM

I vowed at the beginning of the summer that I would make it out to the Barnacle in Marblehead. Although I have made a couple of trips that way over the summer I never seemed to make it here..even though I heard decent things about it.

Finally..today I made it there for a late lunch. I have to say, I was surprisingly impressed. Since the weather was so nice, we sat outside on the side deck. It was very cozy and the view is almost unbeatable.
It was difficult to decide what to have..but ultimately, I settled on a cup of Lobster Bisque and the lobster salad ( yes..there is a theme there). I am very picky about Bisque..so I always have low expectations when trying it in a new restaurant. I need not have been so skeptical. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the Lobster Bisque was..hands down..the best I've had..ever. It was not too thick. It was sweet and loaded with decent sized pieces of lobster meat. I actually found myself wishing that I had skipped the lobster salad and ordered a bowl of the bisque.
The lobster salad was delicious however. My companion got the fried scallops and I sampled one. They were pretty good sized ( literally four bites each) and very fresh and sweet.
So..we have an excellent view..delicious food..all that's left is the service. In this respect the Barnacle hit yet another home run. Our server , Amanda, was very friendly and knowledgeable and a definite asset to the restaurant. The price could not be beat and the portions were more than enough .
