Not sure what took us so long, but we finally made it to Applewood last night. We showed up about 7pm without reservations and they were able to seat us outside out front right away.
It was an outstanding experience in every way. I can't remember the last time I had such a hard time choosing what to eat, everything sounded so good. We started with great and refreshing cocktails, I had the cantaloupe martini and she had the honeydew margarita. Both great.
Small plates were beef tartar for me and she had the organic snap pea salad. Their take on beef tartar was wonderful, more like a ground beef than the thin strips you usually get. The salad was also fresh and very tasty.
Entrees were lamb loin and fennel sausage for her and day boat halibut comfit on a bed of greens. Really really well prepared, great fresh ingredients, we were both astounded at how good it was (and keep in mind I'm usually the meat and potatoes guy - we had a weird role reversal but were each completely satisfied).
Ended with the fallen chocolate soufflé and a glass of armagnac (nice selection by the way).
This place has definitely moved up into out regular rotation. I guess we need to get out more!
