Strolling by new (3 weeks old) Fillmore Grill last evening,saw an empty table, so decided to take a "test run" (sorry, Melanie we didn't wait for you!!). Totally refurbished location (formerly mexican rest. across from Clay Theatre- Clay/Fillmore)has great neighborly feel from the minute you walk in. The hostess (Amanda), owner (Owen, an Irishman from County Clare), waiters and even the Chef (an Austrian, Albert, promises weinerschnitzel later on menu)make everyone welcome and cared for during meal. Service is by very professional waiters,everyone (from groups of 6 to couples with babies in strollers)treated like regulars. The menu is smallish with entrees in the $8/burger to $16/strip steak range. Several appetizers, salads and desserts as well. Wine listed by mouth feel/flavors as well as suggestions for food and covers the world (US, France, Italy, Argentina), they also feature reasonable carafes of some totally acceptable names. Had terrific Caesar salads; Halibut was perfect accompanied medley of celery root, potatoes,carrots in lightly scented veggie/fish broth; NY Strip steak cooked as requested, with bright seasoning on the sauteed greens requested instead of mashed potatoes). THIS IS A WINNER!!! Lunch to come!
