Last weekend I stopped by Bovolo to get a light dinner, trying one of the salads this time. Panzanella sounded good to me, but it wasn't at all what I expected. The weird thing is that the person ordering ahead of me at the counter had inquired about it and the cashier described it with a "warning" that it had a lot of bread in it.
What I was served was mostly young arugua with some radicchio and baby spinach. The balsamic-based dressing was ok, maybe a little too sweet. The fresh figs were great with the Point Reyes blue cheese, but I wanted more juice-soaked bread in my panzanella!
I continued my survey of the housemade gelato flavors. I gave into my chocolate-lust with a reorder of the Scharffen Berger chocolate which was a little lighter this time. I also retried the brown sugar because the cashier said it had been popular today. I'm glad I did because I liked it much more than the first time. Both gelati had better texture, smoother and less icy than early rounds. I think Bovolo is getting into its gelati groove.
