i just bought 8 new Fiesta place settings in cobalt blue from Macy's in a recent sale. of the 8 dinner plates that came with this set, 6 of them do not sit stably on a flat surface. the bottom surface of the plates is not flat, so the plates wobble or rock from one side to the other as you use them. i also bought a 13" serving platter, which has the same problem to a spectacular degree. if you push down on one side of the platter, the other side lifts up by almost a half inch! the bottom is quite convex, not even close to flat. Macy's is of course sending me replacements free of charge, but with more than 3/4 of my original order having this issue, i'm wondering how many of the replacements will also not sit flat on a table. i called up Homer Laughlin Company, who assured me that all Fiestaware coming from Macys is "First Quality", and never "factory second" or blemished items. They also assured me that they should always sit stably on the table, and that these problems with plates rocking from side to side are not common and should have been detected in the manufacturing inspection.
so what gives... is their quality slipping? did i just get a bad batch? do they all do this now?
