My mother in law's birthday was supposed to be at the Slanted Door. At the last moment she decided she didn't want to eat Vietnamese food. We wound up at Sinbad's just to the right of the Ferry Building. I was disappointed due to anticipating Slanted Door, and thinking Sinbad's looked kind of tacky, but was I ever wrong! Sure I would have had a gourmet treat at Slanted Door. But what wound up happening is I accidentally discovered a hidden gem. The food at Sinbad's was great! The fish was impeccable: salmon salad was a very nice green salad topped with a huge filet, and my halibut was a big beautiful slab with a delicate mushroom cream sauce. French fries were strangely wonderful: crunchy batter coated and creamy interior. I loved them. We were there for a week-day lunch and it was not crowded. The back wall is all glass and you can sit in the old comfy style booths and gaze at the ferry sailing in under the Bay Bridge. price average: $15 - 20, but you could get a sandwich or salad for about $10. I plan to make this a regular stop for a nice private lunch with friends.
