fenton's is open (longish)

i went to fenton's earlier tonight after double checking that they were, indeed, open.
we (group of 3) waited about half an hour for a table, then another ten minutes to order. it was extremely full, with a huge line for take out as well as one for tables. the hot food is limited to sandwiches until next weekend, but the ice cream menu is offered. we tried to order a black & tan, a black & white, and a hot toppers with hot fudge. unfortunately, the waiter returned fifteen minutes later to inform us that they were out of toasted almond and all the berry flavors, so we ended up ordering another hot toppers with caramel.
when the ice cream finally arrived, we were immediately disappointed by the lack of toppings. when i'm paying $8.25 a sundae (my friends agreed that the prices were all at least a dollar or two higher than before), i expect enough toppings to eat with my ice cream. instead, i was left with a lot of plain vanilla to slog through when the fudge & whipped cream were gone. maybe fenton's isn't known for their vanilla, but i hoped for a better vanilla flavor...this was no better than dreyers.
on our way out, we heard the hostess informing people in line for take out that they would be able to choose from all the flavors, but those that wanted to be at a table would be limited. i quote "we have enough toasted almond for the takeout line". i've never heard of an ice cream place doing that before...keeping separate supplies for take out and dine in.
the ice cream is pretty good, but the lines and high prices don't make me wish to return to fenton's any time soon. ghirardelli seems to be a better value.
