Had a pretty good lunch today at Felix Continental Cafe in Old Town in the City of Orange. Had carne con papas (beef stew) w/a side of rice and beans and plantains for $9.
Just had that one dish, but based on that I would say this is very competitive with Versailles quality. They also serve a number of Spanish dishes too.
But what is special about this place is the atmosphere, it is on the perimeter of the Orange town square, which is actually a circle, a rare and welcome sight in Southern California (note to suburbs: a town square is a good idea!). And there is a Europe-like generous quantity of sidewalk seating offering a view of the square. Very nice. A little busy though (but not Cheesecake Factory busy), so a little caution on coming here during prime time dining hours.
