Despite the heat, eight of us got together to send Dave back to NY stuffed to the gills with tacos.

I know, I promised everything would have wheels -- but it was simply too hot to walk to some of the more outlying trucks, and a couple of them were unavailable (perhaps because of the holiday). We took it slowly -- particularly enjoying our sojourn on in the cool, quiet patio at the rear of World Cup Coffee (and chatting with the fabulous owner).

--Cubana torta, al pastor "alhambres" plate, mango and guava agua frescas and nuez licuado from El Ojo
--Chile cheese tamales from World Cup Coffee
--corn on the cob w/mayo, cheese and chile; watermelon and mango pieces with lime and chile; and potato chips with lime juice and hot sauce from the fruit cart
--agua caliente with shrimp and octopus, shrimp ceviche tostada and fish tostada from Mariscos La Costa
--al pastor tacos and suadero (beef rib meat) tacos from El Gordo
By the time we reached El Gordo the sun was sinking and a breeze had transformed the heat of the day into a soft, balmy early evening -- a moment to savor with good friends and good food.
