Feeding the after burner

The moderators will probably kick me out for this, but I'll try not to gross anybody out.

I almost got divorced one night last week after consuming two large bowls of Jerusalem artichoke soup for the first time at a friend's house.
I totally loved the taste and would love to make it myself, but the aftereffect was vile!
I couldn't even stay in the room myself, and opening the windows was bad too since we had minus 15 Celsius outside.

Is there any known trick for reducing the effect, or do I have to completely avoid these tasty nuggets for the rest of my life?

I have never experienced anything like it, at least not since the time I ate three whole heads of grilled garlic.
