Feedback on Napa Valley Itin. (Kenzo, Acacia House, Press?)

brownienyc | Jul 27, 201807:17 AM

Hi there,

(TL;DR: looking for feedback on Kenzo, Acacia House, Press. Already have reservations at SolBar & FL (!), and am working on Single Thread and Restaurant at Meadowood Bar.)

Was hoping some of you lovely people might be able to help with advice on an upcoming girl's trip to Napa I'm taking with my mother, aunt and cousin, in part to celebrate my mom's birthday. We're staying in Calistoga August 3-9 and already have confirmed reservations at SolbBar and French Laundry (!). I'm trying to get us in at Single Thread and The Restaurant at Meadowood (bar - the 3 course tasting). I also held reservations at Auberge (5:45p dinner one night..I understand the food is secondary to the views here, so thought going early would address this), Kenzo and Acacia House.

I am looking for feedback on Kenzo and Acacia House in particular, and / or recommendations for places instead of those two (and also in case we don't get into Meadowood and Single Thread). Kenzo seems special and I thought it might be a good one to change it up from all the California / French food (plus we love sushi), but concierge said he'd heard mixed feedback from guests (didn't ask for specifics on the issues). Acacia House looks like a lot of fun with great, interesting food.

Some other places I considered include: Torc (concierge said it was not necessarily worth the drive to this one for dinner), Bottega, Oentori, Two Birds One Stone, The Charter Oak. Press, Mustard's and the other steakhouse-type places don't seem like they'd work for us (two of us don't eat red meat) and La Toque seemed like it might be a bit stuffy. Also looked at Redd and wasn't excited about the menu. I was thinking maybe we should reconsider Press? Looks like a beautiful, warm room and a diverse enough menu for all of us to be happy.

Also for wineries/tastings, these are the sites I had in mind: Scribe, Hess (art!), Domaine Carneros (caviar!), Tamber Bey (ponies!), Chateau Montelena. Maybe Cakebread, Grgich, Chalk Hill, Hall St. Helena, and Kosta Browne (if my member friend can get us in). We aren't going to try to do too many, probably 3-4 total during our 5 days, at the most. Any feedback on these or other recommendations would be really great.

Thanks in advance for feedback on any/all of the above! We're really excited about our trip....

PS: Bonus round! Not a food question at all, but has anyone gone to Safari West? Was thinking that might be fun...
