How about some feedback (chuckle) on local takeaway menus

Things have been way too quiet here, for obvious reasons. But our great restaurants are still putting our food. You can go to many of the micro breweries and buy direct, putting the money in the brewers hands at let the groceries make their money on TP. Even some of the distillers can sell direct. I went to Porchjam for their Bolden vodka (it tastes like real vodka) but they were down to just management making hand sanitizer for the front line people.

I think many of the great neighborhood places are putting out some of their regular menu as takeaway. What I would like to hear about is what some of you may have sampled from the white table cloth places that have had to shift gear to sell out the door.

We tried the Family Meal from one of our top favorites Carrollton Market. Last week their Thursday meal of debris lasagna and roasted asparagus sounded fantastic, but we already had that night covered. So we had their version of the every Catholic church Lenten Friday catfish. It was amazingly good.

Now wife and I generally have different tastes and I fully realize with food good is subjective, but we were both impressed.
The catfish was the small thin filets. A light breading and even when reheated it was good and moist. Potato salad was not dressed up with olives or pieces of onion. It was just chunky and smooth potato, again very light. We both took a forkful of coleslaw at the same time, looked at each other and agreed it was the best coleslaw we had ever had. It was just very fresh, very good shredded cabbage in a very light dressing.

In all three of these dishes quality base ingredient were allowed to stand out and the light touch additions just played a background role. No sauces, magic chemistry, exotic ingredients. Amazing what a good chef can do with simple comfort food.

Anyone else had kicked up comfort from a well regarded place, or any other dishes that stood up to takeaway delay and mistreatment?
