Arrived late in the day to Federalist Pig to find most of the bbq selections sold out. Ok, good sign to be a sure, but not exactly what I was hoping for. Not that I was surprised. The pitmaster ran DC's best all-around bbq at DCity Smokehouse before it closed.
So I opted for the pork belly, which I was wary of. And I struck gold. Yes, it was fatty, but it hit all the buttons for great bbq. Although I first thought I wouldn't be able to eat much, it went down smooth, and I finished it before I realized it was all gone. It had the smokiness and char and spice of a great mess of food.
Alongside the Q, I got the cole slaw (it's spicy) and the chipotle geen beans. Despite the bean being drenched in oil and soft, they had a really nice flavor. The slaw was excellent.
It should have come with some Texas toast, but they were out of that too. Another reason to go back, though I will have to plan better the next time.
