I've been feeling kind of sorry for the Fed Plaza farmers market. All those write-ups for Oak Park, Evanston, Green City, and not a word about the #1 loop farmers market.
One of the best stands there that does not make the trek out to Oak Park is Green Acres, from North Judson IN. I think they do show up at Daley and Evanston. They have a ton of vegetables there. Today I bought japanese turnips, thai eggplant, and some baby lettuce. They have lots of other varieties of eggplants and summer squashes, chinese bittermelon, herbs, and about 20 varieties of hot peppers.
There's also a nice herb stand there from Chicago Heights. Picked up some arugula there--last week's was fantastic.
Lots of tomatoes at several stands this week, and some corn (although The Farm is not there). Many Michigan fruit stands there, and several pie/baked goods places. Being downtown, there's are plenty of flowers.
Nichols sign said they had corn, although there was none to be seen at noon. They had even more potatoes, more types of carrots, and several types of haricots verts. Pretty pricey, at $4/container. But they looked really good.
Alas, no fresh donuts.
