I discovered M Cafe de Chaya after reading about it here on the Chowhound boards, THANK YOU!
I went last Friday or lunch, and then again this past Saturday for a quick bite. Friday I shared various items with a friend, the salmon from the deli case and the kale salad being our faves. The kale salad has a great sweet-spicy-peanutty dressing and when I went back Saturday, I got some more!
Also on Saturday I splurged for the Ahi burger. It was incredible. Tuna itself was perfect and plentiful. I tasted a hint of lemon, and teriyaki, and then there were what tasted like very mild grilled onions and some sort of sprouts. There was a bit of spice as well. The bun was very good, reminded me of the buns at Islands that I really like, yet even tastier. The flavors were very subtle, I suppose so as to not overpower the tuna. I'm not usually one for mild flavors, but I just really loved this burger. It was the totality of the dish I guess, lot's of different flavors all on balance.
Just noticed the description on the website, sounds like I did taste it all, 'cept maybe the shiso leaf.
Grilled Tuna Burger ~ 13.75
glazed with teriyaki sauce and garnished with sliced avocado, umeboshi-pickled red onions, daikon sprouts, spicy yuzu mayo and fresh shiso leaf served on a house-baked whole wheat bun
Saturday when I went it was very early, around 6:00. I sorta had to chuckle at the line waiting for Pinks right around the corner... Who in their right mind would go there assuming M Cafe was open? Not me!
Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks to all the 'hounds, and ask you: What are your faves at M Cafe?
Next stop, Azami, right across the street. : )
