I'm looking to splurge on a chef's tasting menu at one of Manhattan's finer restaurants and was hoping some Chowhounds could point me in the right direction. Has anyone had the good fortune to experience the tasting menus at Le Bernardin, Bouley, Per Se, and the like? Should I go for one of these tried and true establishments or are their any hidden gem tasting menus that I should seek out? Price is less of a concern than enjoying a meal of unparalleled excellence, but I also appreciate good value for the money (in other words, if Per Se is really the best at $150 a head, that is fine, but if there is a better meal to be had for $100 a head, I'm perfectly happy eschewing a popular name for a fantastic meal).
Appreciate your thoughts.
