With the recent thread on knife storage, be curious to hear what everyone's preference is. For me, it was a solid walnut block , 6 long slots parallel. Enough for cleaver and daily knifes. Everything else just remained in a roll up, that I keep in a cabinet nearby
Fast forward to 2017. My 3 1/2 year old comes strolling into the living room with a cookie in his hand. We asked him where he got it (it was in the upper cabinet) - out of reach and out of sight.. We go to the kitchen together and he shows us how he put his chair against the base cabinet , climbed up to the countertop and viola, cookie time. Had to redo my knife storage since that day.
I've explored different knife options but ultimately, I ended up putting the daily knives in a cutlery tray (one cabinet drawer has dual layers). Top has flatware and you slide it, and underneath are my knifes, Each knife is currently in it' own saya, except for 3, that I was too cheap to have more Saya's made and I just wrap them in thick coverstock.
I'm always looking at different knife storage systems. The magnets are not for me. Love how the workflow is - just not a fan of seeing exposed cutlery.
