I was recently dismayed to learn that the best burger in the East Bay has disappeared along with Zax Tavern in Berkeley, which closed last month. The burger here was amazing - like a good steak, it was seared, crusted black, and incredibly juicy. The beef was top quality; it had the taste and slightly gamey characteristic of a fine dry-aged steak.
Where o where can I get something similar? I used to enjoy the burger at Gordon's House of Fine Eats in SF, which met its demise a few years ago. I'm willing to cross the bridge again, but would prefer a recommendation in the East Bay.
