I've been looking for a low-fat dessert recipes for someone who recently had their gall bladder removed and came across this:
-- isn't that a LOT of sugar? It already contains a can of sweetened condensed milk and strawberries are naturally sweet. Adding a cup of sugar seems like tooth-achingly sweet overkill.
-- why does the recipe call for the sugar to be mixed with water before being added to the whipped egg whites? It's easy enough to dissolve sugar in them (especially if you blend the sugar first to make it finer)--that's how you make meringue.
