Now that the original thread has grown to more than 400 posts, I'm starting Part 2 for the same topic. It even took me three tries before the link format type post stopped timing out with an error message. Guess that's an argument in favor of pagination.
But here's what is FUBAR . . . at the moment, Google only indexes what's on the first page of a thread it seems.
I've tried to find key words in posts that appear in a thread's other pages. Google doesn't pick up those threads in results.
Posts on the SF Bay Area board are typically indexed by Google within minutes. I used this thread that was reactivated today for a quick test, http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/9973... , and Google does not find the content in the last two posts from drewskisf and me. OTOH, short threads that are only one page posted in the same time frame are found, no problem. And if you look at Google results for chowhound pages now, they are almost all in the < six authors size range.
Until this is fixed, Google is not an effective back up to the site's internal search engine. Further, a huge proportion (30 to 70%) of the site's visitors land here via search engine so it impacts traffic as well.
