farmstands and the like

mehrirubin | Nov 29, 201408:31 PM     6

Hi all,
My family and I are in La Jolla for a few weeks, enjoying the sun and sights. Among other things, I was looking forward to local (and cheap) avocados, since the ones I get back east are expensive and usually don't ripen well. Those at Vons and Whole Foods haven't been great, but I found amazing ones at a farmstand in Escondido, just outside the Safari Park. I wonder if there are more local farmstands closer to La Jolla, where I might find avocados and other local produce. Am going to check out the La Jolla farmer's market on Sunday. Any suggestions for good produce?
We'd like to visit a date farm, too (like Shields), but probably not worth 2.5 hrs drive. (We have 2 kids under 4.) Thoughts for alternatives?
Thanks for any help!
