Farmers' Markets - and Jubilee Chocolates

Capaneus | Jun 15, 2003 01:54 AM

Recent discussions here inspired me to stop by the Fitler market this morning. A total of *three* stands. Pretty sad. On closer inspection, though, the two farm stands had decent produce, both variety and quality, and one had baked goods, so I picked up some stuff.

I ignored the middle stall, because they had no produce. Finally went back because they were giving stuff away free. Born mooch, I am. Then I realized they were Jubilee Chocolates, of Gourmet cover fame. Tried a couple of the samples, and they were as good as advertised. Bought the medium assortment (ate them before I got back home). Overheard they are not doing as swimmingly as one would expect of a business which made the cover of a major magazine. As I understand it, not having retail outlets makes for wild fluctuations in demand.

Anyway, the stuff is *wonderful* I would recommend anyone who likes chocolate track them down. Philly doesn't do that many things well. We should support craftspeople of this caliber, when we get the opportunity.

Also, the people there were the principals, and they were *really* nice. I hope they make it. Heck, I hope they do well enough to ignore moochers like me for the rest of their lives, gosh bless 'em.
