Farmer's market lettuce: no price change

Feeling in need of some greens after the weekend's meat fest, I tripped down to the Justin Herman Plaza farmer's market at lunch.

After seeing iceberg lettuce at $2.99 a head last time I was in Albertson's, I was surprised and pleased to note that the price of mixed lettuces and greens at the farmer's market has not gone up. While I've always considered them a good value, compared to $2.99 a head for iceberg, $5.00 for trimmed, cleaned, high-quality organic greens seems like a bargain.

I also bought some gorgeous red chard ($1 for a good-sized bunch); a pound and a half of loose chiogga beets ($2/lb. nice to see large ones because trimming and peeling the little ones is too much work for too little beet); fat healthy leeks ($2/bunch); and a huge, ripe-looking pomelo ($2).

I feel healthier already.
