Farewell Gustaf Anders

JC | Jan 28, 2004 11:45 AM

I just received this very sad email today:

--begin--

EVERYTHING MUST COME TO AN END

This is an announcement which makes us happy and sad. I am happy because I have always promised myself that I would retire before I was 60, but I am sad because we both love the restaurant and enjoy what we do.

It has been a great ride!! Many who will read this remember the beginning on Turquoise Street in Pacific Beach back in the summer of 1981. We opened with 6 tables and on busy nights I would rent an extra table so we had 7. After about a year or so we broke through the wall and then we had 12 tables.

In 1984 we moved to La Jolla and finally had the BIG restaurant. We wined and dined everyone from Tom Cruise to Joan Rivers-it was the 80's and we were having the time of our lives.

December of 88 we received an offer we couldn't refuse and began our next chapter at South Coast Plaza Village. I guess we should call this our Swedish period because it was in Orange County that we started serving smörgåsbord and cooking Swedish comfort food. Orange County has been good to us. Being a part of the South Coast Plaza family has been wonderful and very rewarding but everything must come to an end. So, last chance for Parsley Salad, Filet With Stilton Sauce, Herring, Princess Cake etc!!!!!!!!

February 29, Gustaf's 60th birthday, will be the last day of Gustaf Anders Restaurant.

With our many many thanks for your 23 years of loyalty,

Gustaf and Anders

---end---

That's what I get for not going there for Smorgasbord last month.
