Farewell To The AYCE Hot Pot Conveyor Belt--Golden Dumpling House Replaces Hot Pot Buffet in El Monte

Chandavkl | Jul 6, 201501:41 PM

Well if there was a one of the kind Chinese eating place in the SGV, it might have been Hot Pot Buffet with its conveyor belt that wended its way in and out of the kitchen past hungry diners seated along the conveyor belt path. But alas that spectacle is gone, and I guess I should be happy that I was able to eat there once and take pictures. In its stead is Golden Dumpling House, a restaurant so new that I had to write a highly infrequent Yelp review just to get it on the boards. Besides a nice stable of dumplings and noodles, they'll deliver (something you don't see in the SGV) and apparently customize their product for large orders. Golden Dumpling House is at 9961 Valley Bl., #B.

Meanwhile a couple of blocks away, Thon Vy has opened up in the space that has housed a cast of characters after Dumpling 10053 packed up. It offers an interesting combination of rice vermicelli soup, Hue style food, and an interesting selection of fried rice varieties starting with Yang Chow and ending with French beef. Probably not surprising since all the conversation in the restaurant was Cantonese.
