Went to Farallon in April. The much talked about ambience was terrible, imho. It was small and we had a lovely view out the window of idling buses across the street. The decor was nothing special, not this wonderful fantasy land kind of place people make it out to be. Aqua's ambience was much nicer. That said, the food was excellent, the Hawaiian Butterfish the best fish I have ever had, easily.
2nd night we went to Cafe Andree, next to Hotel Rex. A suprise find! Very small and intimate room, tapas style place. We had filet mignon tacos with a vanilla pesto sauce. Wow! Not what I expected, one of the best flavors I have ever had! You could taste all the different, distinct flavors, they went well together. I had chimichuri steak, excellent on top of crispy shoestring fries. They brought the bill in an old book. Very cool, very good, and best dining value I have ever had.
Went to Cheesecake Factory at Union Square, sat on the outdoor patio. To call it garbage would be an insult to garbage! Some of the worse food I have ever eaten! I had the Shrimp Scampi, it sounded good on the menu, traditional, with white wine, lemon and garlic. When it came, it was a thick creamy mess. The menu said nothing about a heavy cream sauce, and the shrimp was battered, again not mentioned. I've had much better food at Chili's. Waiter brought the wrong appetizer, it sucked but I can't even remember what it was, I was able to block it from memory. Nice touch were pigeons flying onto nearby empty tables. Ugh, what garbage food! Expected it to be on par with California Pizza Kitchen at least. DO NOT go there!!!
