Famished in Erie:( Straved for fine dining

I can't believe that a city the size of Erie has the fine dining problem that it has! We went to dinner at a highly praised fine dining mansion this weekend. WHAT A LET DOWN I can honestly say the only positive thing was the coffee. The appetizer was straight out of the chip isle at the local grocery. The side vegetables were mush, the mash potatoes cried for any kind of help and the entree well I won't go there. The crème brulee was custard with packages of sugar on top, when I asked do you have a pastry chef the owner said oh yes, I guess the pastry chef missed that class.

Crème Brûlée is a French term for what the English refer to as Burnt Cream. This simple custard is cooked and cooled. A small amount of sugar is sprinkled on the top of the cooled custard and the sugar is caramelized using a small torch or beneath a broiler.

I am so sad to report the best meal I have had in Erie over the last year was at the local Wegmans grocery store heart healthy tasting station.

I can say The Stone House Inn has never failed us over the years but a city the size of Erie should have more to offer then one trusted fine dining establishment.

Oh yes I forgot the 100’s of fast food and chain restaurants that litter the city no wonder Erie County is having obesity issues!
