Family Store (Mediterrarean/Italian Gorgeousness) in Bay Ridge

Hi Chowhounds,

I have been visiting the new & improved Family Store, 6905 3rd Avenue around 68th/69th or Bay Ridge Avenue. The store was remodeled and kind of refocused a few weeks ago.

They still have an array of fruits and nuts, which are now housed in easy-pour canisters on the wall. And they have some gourmet groceries and their spice array.

Now, they seem to focusing the attention on the fresh prepared foods and take-out aspect of the store; the food is amazing! Today the menu included a glazed rack of lamb, fennel with parmigiano reggiano that was broiled (i think), a paprika chicken, stuffed cabbage leaves, black bean salad with haloumi, chickory with caramelized onions, stuffed clams, a lighter shrimp dish, and too much more. The menu has expanded from middle eastern to include more italian (including pasta dishes and homemade marinaras in the refrigerator and general mediterranean flavors.

I've bought a nice grocery supply from the counter several times now and it makes work lunches convenient and decadent.

I wrote about the Family Store under Food Stuffs or What's my craving but I focused more on the grocery aspect of the place. also thought I'd write now since the weather is warming up I'd be a great picnic lunch to walk from 3rd Avenue to the pier on the water...And don't forget a container of those large multi-colored olives (they have a name but i forgot) for a side!

Someone else here wrote about the crab cakes. Let me know what you think!
