I was searching for restaurant with a private room, view on the water, that would allow us to bring our own wine, and, of course, great food. Finz turned out to be all of these, plus excellent service.
Their function room is rather large, has a bar and a small dance floor. Because our group was just 13 people, and we did not want a cash bar, they agreed to rent it to us for $100, instead of the normal $300. The manager showed us the room a few days before the event, and offered us some options - choice and placement of the tables, the music that they have, electical outlets if we wanted to bring our own music. Corkage fee was $15, whether for wine or hard liquor, the only requirement was that we don't bring anything that they already have. We brought a few bottles of champaign and wine(which they kept on ice and served for us), and in addition a few people ordered shots from the bar. We also brought our own cakes for dessert, the agreement was that they'll charge us $1/pp for tea and service, but in the end it wasn't on the check.
The view is on the small channel which has boats parked in, not the ocean but still nice.
Although there was another function in the same room earlier that day, when we arrived the room was perfectly clean, the tables were served, everything was ready.
We had some appetizers to start: fried calamary, mussels and chicken skewers - all reasonably good, but not spectacular. Beautifully served, though.
We also ordered oysters(six on half-shell), which were great - very fresh and flavourfull.
For main course:
Seafood alfredo - a huge portion, lots of seafood, lots of sauce. Haven't tried it, but it looked very nice.
New York Sirloin au Poivre, ordered medium well - two people who had it said that was one of the best steaks they've ever had. Granted, they're brothers ;) (people are brothers, dunno about steaks).
Salmon Filet - looked and smell great, did not get a chance to try. Good size portion, but not huge.
Bouillabaisse - not like any I've tried before, but very tasty, with lots of fresh seafood in some orange-red (but not tomato) sauce.
Unfortunately, they were out of yellow fin tuna that day. Overall, the menu is not large, but I felt like there was enough choice.
Some people ordered green salads, and those looked good and fresh, and huge. Apparently, there's no way to order a small salad with dinner.
The service was absolutely excellent throughout the evening. The waiter was skillfull, attentive, and very helpfull. The main course (for 13 people!) appeared at the same time, the waitress asked us whether everybody was finished eating before clearing the table, and she kept track of who ordered what.
I am very happy we picked Finz, and highly recommend it if you like good seafood, can stand to pay >$20 per plate, and have a small group to entertain.
