Hello and Happy New Year everyone! My wife, 9 year-old daughter, and I will be traveling to northern Italy at the end of March and early April. We would greatly appreciate any suggestions you might have for family-friendly restaurants in the areas we will be visiting. My wife and I love eating authentic Italian food in the regions we visit, but our daughter is not (yet?) a very adventurous eater. During our last trip to Italy (Venice, Tuscany, Rome), we found that if a menu was too fancy or adventurous, our daughter happily got by with a plate of pasta with butter and cheese or tomato sauce, and it was our experience that restaurants were happy to accommodate (to me, that is the definition of "family-friendly" that will work for us). Our daughter is well-behaved and has dined with us at nice restaurants before, so we aren't opposed to nicer places, but we would like to avoid 2+ hour dinners throughout our vacation as well as taking her to restaurants that only have a tasting menu.
So, with that in mind, are there any places you'd recommend in or around the places we are visiting below? Also, we will be staying in Emilia-Romagna for 5 nights (with Bologna as a home base), and would appreciate any suggestions for (a) touring cheese-, balsamic oil- or prosciutto-making facilities; (b) restaurants in nearby areas that we can take day trips to (e.g., Parma and Modena); and (c) restaurants in Bologna that are open on Easter. Cinqueterre (staying in Vernazza): 3 nights
Emilia-Romagna (Home base in Bologna, but planning on taking day trips to surrounding areas that you might recommend, such as Parma and Modena, etc.): 5 nights (including Easter Sunday)
