Fall/Winter CSA options for folks without cars?

sancor | Sep 8, 201510:04 PM     9

Hi guys,

I've been reading through a lot of older threads on CSAs here, and am really interested in getting involved in one. In particular I'm hoping to get onto a Fall CSA or a combination of CSAs to get me through the winter as well.

What I'm struggling with is that the majority of the CSAs praised on this forum involve pick-ups out at the actual farms, which isn't an option for me as I don't have a car nor the budget to get one. I'm hoping that someone on the forum might have experience or recommendations with CSAs that have delivery or pick-up locations within Boston (in particular either Cambridge where I work or Lower Allston where I live).

I'm looking to feed two people, and we both love vegetables and cooking new things. We would be really happy with a share consisting of leafy winter greens, roots and squash. So far I've looked at Red Fire Farms and the Clover CSA options. I've seen mixed reviews about the state of the produce and the quantity of food with RFF. I have also heard negative things about people's shares going missing/getting picked through at Clover if you don't arrive very early. Would love to hear impressions of either of these options.

Thank you all for sharing your thoughts.
