We *did* fall in love with Chicago

First off, thanks to everyone for the emails and responses to my questions on this board and the General Topic board! Very helpful and thoughtful. Best of all from the weekend was that we got a fantastic place in Edgewater - can't wait to move in!

So, I'm posting about what we ate while we were there last weekend - I'm not sure that we made the best choices with where we went, but I always figure, "we would have tried it at some point anyway." Here's the rundown of 6 places:
-Bistrot Margot for a late dinner. Not good at all, sorry to say. Steak from steak frites was grainy and dry, roasted chicken had soggy skin and *very* salty sauce. Millions of frites on each plate, that were like Mcdonalds fries. Didn't try my friend's plate, but he said it was "okay," which in his speak, means he was not happy with it at all.
-Zig Zag pizza: we didn't have time for a deep dish so we got a thin crust. It was quite good with fresh tasting tomato sauce, fresh shreds of basil and good quality sausage.
-Coco pazza (spelling?) for italian: tried paperdelle with shredded rabbit ragut, which was pretty good, and the butternut squash raviolis. Friend had roasted chicken which he liked but the rabe that came with it was too bitter to eat. A salad of "roasted beets" really tasted like canned beets but the goat cheese with it was good. Service very nice.
-Corner Bakery: we ate here in the morning out of convenience and it was fine. We really liked the cinnamon raisin bread toast.
-Fox and Obel: just to see what it was like inside. GOt some very good muffins and croissants to go. Looking forward to shopping there in the future! As it looked like they had an amazing assortment of cheeses.
-Giaggonos? (Sorry I can't remember it/spell it - it's just outside the loop...) For pizza again. I didn't like the crust and there was just too too much cheese in this deep dish monster. Maybe I'm not used to it but it was too heavy -only ate one piece - and strange with the tomato sauce on top. Is this common for deep pizza?
-I'd love to hear other responses from people who have eaten at these places, and recommendations for what else to try. THanks again everyone.
