Earlier this month I had a chance to grab a bite at Falasophy's brick-and-mortar counter at the 4th Street Market in Santa Ana.
An order of Falafel Bites, $4.50, served with tahini dipping sauce was just the right amount for a light lunch. I helped myself to the two hot sauces, a fiery jalapeño-parsley green condiment and a riper, red chile paste. When I inquired about the nature of the green one, the counterperson said it was "a hotter Lebanese version of chimichurri". I replied, "You mean zhug?" Then he said I was the only one besides the founder who ever called it "zhug".
The falafel were excellent. The place was busy on a Sunday afternoon, so freshly fried to order at that time. They're a little smaller in dimension, enhancing the crispy surface to volume ratio, and made in the near conical shape.
Seated at one of the communal tables, another patron asked what I thought of the food. He explained that he was making the rounds tasting the wares of various caterers for an upcoming wedding. Falasophy's truck was in the running because it offered vegan options.
If I worked nearby, I'd be eating lunch here regularly. What do others like at Falasophy?
