Falafel King has re-opened on Stephen Ave proper, in the space that was, ironically, Cedars back in the day and that has seen some failed concepts come and go. It's been open since Monday and I made it in today (Weds).
Good news: GORGEOUS space and reno! They did an amazing job, and the new king seats- get this- 110. It is without question the spiffiest falafel place I've seen, ever.
Bad news: I really did not like my chicken shawarma. It was made precisely and neatly and came looking food-stylist perfect, but the flavour just did not hold a candle to the fantastic shawarmas and donairs I've been enjoying these days from Sammy's, Shawarma Knight and places further afielg. Also, the king's pita seemed dry and hard to bite through- nothing like the tender bite of pita from, say, A and A or the aforementioned Shawarma Knight. I hope FK is not sacrificing flavour for standardization and visual appeal, because when it comes to shawarma (and donair, which FK does not do), it's not about the way the food looks.
