Fada, W'msburg -- a nice blackout experience

Marella | Aug 18, 2003 04:34 PM

Just wanted to say that prior to last week we hadn’t eaten at Fada, primarily because of postings on this board, which usually mesh with our taste. However – at around 9:00 am Friday morning we were walking by in a blackout-haze (no coffee) and lo and behold there were 2 people sitting in the open doorway, drinking: coffee!! For a moment we thought maybe it was a special club, of which we definitely were not members, but no – they were open, had American coffee and a limited breakfast & lunch menu – several omelette’s, croque monsieur’s/madame’s, fresh-made potato chips, salami sandwiches etc. We settled in for some perfectly good coffee and shared an omelette campagnarde which was delicious (bacon, potatoes, onions), and were absolutely delighted by their willingness to work with what they had. Granted, it was breakfast food, and an unusual circumstance, but we were so happy with their attitude and service (two things that we all certainly love to rail about on these boards) that it made us absolutely want to give them a try at dinner. Of course, if the food doesn’t hold up, well -- that’ll be that. But they were so upbeat about everything; it just made us feel cheerful and generous too...
