How to make EXTRA-long grain white rice in a Zojirushi?

drasil | Jul 28, 201408:27 PM     3

Because I eat rice nearly three times a day, every day, I finally went and got a 'real' rice cooker, a Zojirushi NS-TSC10.

The problem is that the rice I normally eat and enjoy (Carolina extra long grain white) doesn't seem to cook very well in the cooker. The instructions never mention extra-long grain rice. They do mention long grain, and I've been following those instructions. But this yields rice which is oddly both under and overdone at the same time: very clumpy yet more 'al dente' at the center than it should be.

I've been following the instructions exactly in terms of proportion as well as the intricate, multi-step rice washing procedure outlined in the manual.

Anyone know how to get good extra-long grain white rice out of their Zojirushi?

(Also, for those of you who notice these things, how long does it take for the Zojirushi to stop offgassing a plastic taste into the rice?)
