I decided to go to Next Door Nobu for the first time last night after having been to Nobu many times. I showed up with two other people at 8 o'clock expecting to wait - and I did. They said it would be an hour to an hour and a half, and took our cell number. We went over to the Tribeca Grand for a couple cocktails and returned at 9:15 to see how long it would be. After another 10 minutes, we were told that three bar seats were available at Nobu and that we could go over there. We happily accepted, meaning that I still don't know what the food or service are like at Next Door Nobu, but I'm not complaining.
The meal at Nobu was probably the best I've ever had there. We did omakase for $100pp, and had them include the black cod (since my guest had never had it before) which they served along with a piece of miso-crusted foie gras, which I haven't seen there before. Other dishes included sweet shrimp with an extremely spicy sauce, a tuna tartare, kobe-style beef with Japanese pumpkin, and a few others.... The dessert was new to me as well (a Nobu-version of a smore) - overall, an excellent Nobu meal as usual.
