Saturday I was on a Tour de Work Avoidance. Lots to do at home, which is why home was not my favorite destination. In this mode, I found myself driving around Midway Airport to visit the Polish-European market Gilmart on Archer, followed by Bobaks, then a walk through Szalas, which was closed for a private party but they let us peak anyway. The Moms agreed it was a place to bring pending out-of-town guests.
At Gilmart, I found oxtails in the butcher section for $2.50 per pound. I would have bought them but I wasn't in the mood to pull a number and wait a while. I regretted my decision later when I went to Bobak's to find Oxtails at $3.25 a pound. At Garden Fresh Market in Northbrook this evening, oxtails were roughly $3.25 also.
I was at Garden Fresh Market in Northbrook this evening and found a number of Bobak's products on the shelves. I see a number of products from Israel in this shop as well. Not surprisingly there were kosher products throughout the store. They did have individually wrapped Russian-recipe candies made-in-Brooklyn, USA. Several years ago, I sent several pounds by post to friends in Germany. As delighted as I was by them, they felt they were not as good as those from Russia. Compared to those available during Soviet times, I thought they were more than acceptable. I still won out in-kind; in exchange they returned the box filled with German salad dressings!
