Excellent Indianapolis restaurant

Actually, this restaurant is in Broadripple, David Letterman's hometown located on the NW side of the city via College Ave.

My wife and I highly recomment "Ambrosia," a lovely Italian restaurant with its small adjacent bar in the heart of the lively Broadripple food scene. We especially like the open air seating on the porch in the summer.

We have had good luck with most items on the menu, from simple linguini with Bolognese sauce to tasty chicken and veal dishes. But the piece de resistance is always the homemade Ravioli (a la Mamma?) that is served with a silken pesto cream sauce that is among the best we've tasted in the trendy world of Italian cuisine. (San Francisco, NYC, Chicago, and Tuscany.) We always order this, and one other dish, then split them. A nice little table wine and house salad is all you'll need in addition. Frankly, I don't recall that the bread was remarkable, but it's best to save your bread carbs for the entrees anyway.

It's a family business, and Mamma, the tiny but powerful and no-nonsense lady who CONTROLS the reservation/seating list, (and is probably the inspiration/creator of many house recipes), can be a challenge for first time visitors. But DO accept the challenge.

By the way, the Mario Andretti's and Paul Newman ALWAYS ate here more than once, whenever they were in town for a race. And no wonder! We sat near them many times.

This is simple, delicious, authentic Italian food, the quality of which can rarely be found outside of the Italian boot itself. We drive down from Chicago at least twice a year to experience it.
